My point is strictly that there's no reason for singling P&S out. There's no particular evidence that they're any more well-off than the other principal characters (with the exception of the D&Gs). If one's to offer a counter-example, one needs to examine both the original example and the counter carefully. GO and Strakey were quite evidently flush with pocket-money (regardless of the price of a packet of cigarettes, the habit isn't cheap over time, yet they clearly had ample pocket money). Their guardians were evidently able to buy them off rather than see them submit to appropriate punishment as the D&Gs would have been subjected to.

WRT police inefficiency, I don't think that the view that a police force is more concerned with closing cases than finding the true culprit is either new, unique or class-specific.

You'll note that Jock actually asked (paraphrasing) "which of these describes AR?" and "are these points significant?". He didn't make a particular claim, or assert that all of them supported a thesis.
