Yes, good article - I had the pleasure of getting to know Ellen Tillinghast when she came to Windermere in 1991. I have a suspicion that AR may have had his tongue in his cheek slightly when he told her that the locations all exist. His first response was 'That's the one kind question I don't answer, the 'Are they real?' ones'.

Of course some locations do exist, eg 'Kanchenjunga' but with different surroundings. Others haven't been found yet, in the sense of exact replicas. My point is that, although I believe that there is no exact 'Beckfoot', when travelling round the Lakes I see dozens of 'Beckfootish' houses. I have also seen 'Swallowdaleish' valleys, but never a cave or the correct type of entrance. I believe that in the books these places are generic, and utterly real because of that.
