Sandshoes are sneakers (gumshoes?) Also known as plimsolls, tennis shoes, daps (Wales), gym shoes

Beef roll - a sort of meat loaf (minced beef, minced bacon, potatoes, egg, seasonings etc.) baked in a tin and served with a tomato sauce.
If like meafloaf can be eaten hot or cold.

Seed cake can be pretty solid. And with care, solidish cakes travel well. When we go tramping (= hill walking in NZ) it is not unusual for a birthday cake to be produced even 2 or 3 days into a trip, whereupon it vanishes very quickly....

There was a really good American-British / British-American dictionary on the Internet, that had words from the 30s/40s (there are lots of current day slang ones, mostly fairly short) referred to in a posting a year or so ago.
Can anyone remember the URL?
