I think of Beckfoot as an example of the fashion to stick a 'new' (pre-1914) house in front of a much older property. The old part, round the back, incorporating kitchen and larder would be built from granite with no DPC. Here, the massive, and slightly damp walls would keep the larder cool in the height of summer. The new part of Beckfoot would be built of brick under a slate roof with a slate DPC.
