While I can empathise with your dislike for this and associated topics

Prue - you must be careful about widening topics on Tarboard and responses to posts. I have no 'dislike' whatsoever for postings on sailing matters or 'associated topics' - I find them fascinating, even though I don't fully understand. I also have no objection to people, such as your goodself, making comment about any topic you care to mention - after all, it is the job of our respected 'Flushing Pilot' to monitor the Board. My post was in reply to your particular suggestion that the plumbing in the Beckfoot bathroom (not mentioned by AR) was an 'important issue'. I took a different view, as I have a right to do. My view is that, while a discussion of said hypothetical plumbing may be a genuine bit of fun, it cannot teach us anything about Ransome as a writer, or his characters or plot-line. That is all I was saying.

I guess the appeal of Tarboard is that if you don't like the topic, you can so easily brush past it to the ones you do enjoy.

I totally agree! I answered your 'important issue' post because you had mentioned me in it, by name, and you wondered what I would think about a type of NZ latrine. Not to reply would have been a discourtesy. Otherwise I would probably have 'brushed past it'!

I do plead with everyone to please read the posts, and not make sweeping and unfair accusations on what you think you have read, but have not.

As to starting another thread, Prue, right you are - see above!
