But there's nothing more that I can usefuly add to this debate. You, have argued cogently and consistently that it's pointless to debate details that are outwith the books. Others have made the point that such debates are enjoyable and can sometimes cast light on AR's meaning.

It's entirely a mater of taste. I enjoy my pigs trotters in aspic with my 500 ml of Warka beer, but I respect your right to prefer a pork pie with your pint of Black Sheep.

The development of this thread has again reminded me of the relationship between format and content. 'Woodwork Forums', which Jeremy has introduced us to, is effectively a series of parallel discussion boards which makes it much easier to 'brush past' topics which are of no interest. Compared to Tarboard the language is pretty raw. Tarboard is much more inclusive and polite.

I think that there is a case for having a seperate place for highly technical discussions about topics that are just beyond the boundary wall of 'All things Ransome'. JMN's boatbuilding (more please, John), my HTML lessons, and the development of English plumbing immediately come to mind. Also a permanent repository for Ed's research and the occasional 'reflective essay' would be very nice.
