Dear Chaplin,
I've got your note about Hyland. Seems that he's been telling Nichols he can't understand his English. He's quite right, of course, nobody can understand what he rambles on about and there a funny sweet smell in his room which certainly isn't Old Holborn. I was always concerned about employing colonials, but the Governors have got this bee in their bonnet about multi-ethnicity, got to set a good example for the lads. I'm in a bit of a dilemma here, Nichols has a brilliant mind, but I've been worried about him ever since he started building a boat in his study. Hyland has been with St Tarboard's since the early days, he's a bit too fond of the cane sometimes, but he gets more lads into Oxford than the rest of the staff combined. So I thought that I'd have both of them round after Evensong for a glass of port. I thought that you might just drop round as well and rabbit on a bit as you did in that sermon about the school being a ship, the headmaster its captain, the staff the officers and the sprogs the crew. A drop of port does wonders for troubled waters.
