Funny you should mention New Zealand - one of my very favorite places and one that still has the feel times past. They used to joke when you landed, "Welcome to New Zealand. Please set your watches back fifty years." Not an entirely bad thing in my view. My particular spot of New Zealand heaven is somewhere in the Wairarapa Valley, not far from the Marlborough wine region and the almost isolated Cape Palliser. I've met people in New Zealand's out and away places that remind me of the Dixons and would guess that somewhere on an isolated sheepfold, someone still responds "Champion" to a friendly greeting.
