No this is not off topic.
A lot AR is givenover the Farmers Dixon et al.. The children needed food or something from the natives every day to survive.

Disease is introduced in WH. Death of a father, which would have been common in the late 1920's for teenage children in England from the war. I bet everyone who had lost a father or who had friends who had lost a father knew about the silence after Peggy utters the words.

The oft track topics often lead back to AR eventually.

AR is about teaching ethics as well as adventure. Ethics of course are defined by culture.

I must say USA, UK and Australian ethics are different, I think AR picked up on this in a small way. Chinese ethics are different again - if you try and ream your ethics down someone else't throat we end up with tension.

In the beginning CF was not ethical in his treatment of John. We see John being higly ethical in return. His world is not shattered when he is scorned, but swimming around the island is akin to throwing a beer bottle at a wall in frustration at the other person not understanding what you are saying.
