I agree that Pete comes over as a specially observed character. The episode with the jiggled tooth surely must have had some "original" and his fishing activities (and dedication) reflect AR's own interests. Which raises the question, was there such an "original" amongst the Broads boys AR encountered during his sailing days there? And likewise for the other Norfolk characters. I was amazed to find in my local telephone directory a Dr T Dudgeon! I discovered that he is Tim, not Tom, and I've never had the courage to enquire further!
