I had always assumed that the two were the same (in some senses). That is, that AR tended to use real people as the models for some characters (eg Oscar Gnosspelius(sp) as the prototype for Squashy Hat and the Busks for the Lapwings)and that his Aunt Helen was the model for the Blackett girls' London Aunt.
