I know what people mean about having difficulty introducing older style literary texts to todays children... i had a similar experience when reading Just William to the class... around 5 children were in hysterics and the remainder didn't understand it.

I would still like to give it a go... so i'll probably have to come up with some teachers resources myself... its remarkable how few proper texts have teachers resources available... whereas every half baked text has enough to sink a ship.
