I certainly agree about the inability to housetrain. In 1964 my then lady friend wanted and acquired a monkey as a pet. She "gave" it the second bedroom as a sort of giant cage. After a relatively short time the monkey (thank heavens) was moved on, but the room was a disaster; floor and walls spackled with monkey poop. It was perfectly legal to acquire a monkey as a pet in California in 1964; my recollection is that she got it from a pet shop.
