Here in the land of the loon, we have Great Northern Divers in reasonable numbers. They feature on our dollar coins and used be prominent on the former $20 note.

One of my fondest memories is of swimming in an Ontario lake (not a great one) watching a parent loon (or diver) feeding a half grown chick with a small minnow like fish. My daughter and I were only about 15-20 feet away from them.

Nowadays cormorants are proliferating and killing off trees in some areas with their presence.

Ed should also recall the parrot's one essential purpose which is to find the message in the arrow fired by Nancy at John.
