JMN - the point here is that the alternative 'sentry' expressions are in the same book- therefore one is surely a typo, unless you are saying that AR changed his mind halfway through, and forgot to go back to change the first one. (I can honestly tell you that I am not losing an awful lot of sleep over this point, and on balance I think Peter R is right.)
BTW - what is 'ink-horn'?
