I have two best experiences...well, really, all experiences in boats are "best" experiences, but right now I have two that I will share.
First of all, sailing on Coniston Water. My family visited last summer, and my parents agreed to pay for a half hour lesson. The best part was that I was actually sailing on Coniston, just like the Swallows and the Amazons, and more importantly, just like AR (minus the being good at sailing part). I also learned a lot about sailing and the lake.
The second experience: Last summer I went camping in Puget Sound with my 14-ft boat, named "Swallow" (of course). On the last night, I set up an awning with a tarp and lots of bungee cords. I spent the night squished under the tarp and my sleeping bag, watching the stars and occasionally sleeping. It was rather uncomfortable, but it was worth it. I really felt like Tom Dudgeon for a moment.
