Heck - I tried to order that one from Amazon along with 'Amelia Peabody's Egypt' - no dice. I guess they are only available in the US, unlike the rest.
Noel Streatfield is an interesting author, very like Elizabeth Enright in an English sort of way. As you say, very adult dependent but the children do forge their own identity all the same - the Painted Garden and White Boots seem good examples.
