Not to be confused with the actor who plays Sirius Black ! Coniston Old Man is a good rough hill walk which should not cause difficulties to anyone reasonably fit. However, like any mountain, it should be taken seriously - you would need proper walking boots and appropriate clothing - it may be warm and sunny when you start but could be cold, wet and windy by the time you reach the summit. Carrying a map and a compass are always a good idea too - sometimes the mist can descend unexpectedly, and while the paths are pretty clear, anyone who has read Swallowdale will know how easy it is to take a wrong turn.
Or you could post your proposed dates here and see if any Tarboarders will be around to act as your guide.....
