Thank you for your thoughts. I think I understand the picture better than I did. Even turning it upside down - which sometimes helps! - was no aid in this case.
Is this the worst picture AR drew for the series? Why? We know he often carried on the tradition started by Canaletto of copying from a camera picture to achieve perspective. He called these pictures his "hollywoods". Could he not do a hollywood for this picture? Night photography was not unknown with flash (vide BS), but even a daytime picture darkened up would have given better perspective.
Does anyone know of a worse picture in the series, please?
