The picture of the Dogs' home with the string (great effect do you not think - ie do not enter but if you must put the string back.) does not have the beams shown laid between the long walls shown in AR sketch - presumably because the light roof beams at the midpoint of the truss were not long enough for hammocks and AR needed the beams for his story. With this size roof noone in their right mind would use AR's beams, to enpensive and labour consuming. Poetic licence.

he could have used the Crook Barn nearby instead of the Dog's Home, much more realistic and dated to about 1700. My guess is the DH is about 1830 - 1860ish?
