"with regard to the carriage and the recent discussion, I now recall that in fact AR borrowed the image of the carriage (a ‘victoria’) from the real-life carriage used by Emma Holt, of Tent Lodge, the visual model for the G.A. Miss Holt’s victoria was presumably kept at Tent Lodge, which Pauline Marshall suggests might be a candidate for ‘Beckfoot’ (it had a robust trellis up one wall) but crikey I don’t want to get mixed up in all that"

You forgot to add AGAIN to the end of your final comment, Peter_H.

If A.R. had a Carriage to copy as the template for the one used by the GA. It does not matter who owns it. All indications are that Huyton Hill disposed of theirs well before the time of SA. Don't forget that the Girls grandfather was a partner in the Crossley Car Company, along with their father.

All this fuss blew over a few years ago when Tent Lodge had been examined and rejected as a possible Beckfoot. The main reason for putting it as a candidate at all was to justify the Rawdon-Smiths as the Amazons, that was one of the major arguments. The opposing camp were touting the Altounyans as being the originals of both the Swallows and Amazons. Each trashing the evidence being put up by the opposing camp to support their claim. That is why there was the argument over whether "Mavis" was "Amazon" and why the Altounyan supporters would not accept the Rawdon-Smith girls claim to be Nancy and Peggy.
