Since my spell checker doesn't seem to work on this message machine, I do keep my old Webster's Unabridged (1949 - the year I started reading Mr. Ransome) close by. AND I do re-read my postings (usually) before I "submit".

How many "safeguards" or extra "edit" buttons do we need in Life? Since the Swallows and Amazons didn't wear life preservers, helmets or seatbelts and other "safty" paraphernalia (trip to Webster), they were, however, imbued with a deep sense of Personal Responsibility which they used. It was this that enabled them to go off on their wonderful adventures unchaperoned by "natives". Of course, it was their parents that instilled this into our heros! They KNEW the three R's: Respect, Resonsibiliy, and Reason!

It is sad that such a high percentage of people now do not seem exhibit much, or any, Personal Responsibility - it is ALWAYS someone else's fault that they get into trouble.
