Sorry Peter H , you mistake effect for intention. The last documentary I saw stated that the failure of Sanspareil was due to a defective boiler plate cast at a foundry owned by George Stevenson, there being no other available at the time. The conclusion stated from the circumstances implied deliberate sabotage.
