Request for information:On page 58 of 'Swallows and Amazons', the 'female native' (Mrs. Walker) is bringing stores to the Swallows for their stay on Wild Cat Island. A paragraph reads "Then I'll give the stores over to her (Susan). There is the pie. Then I've brought a box of Force for breakfast. Susan is going to have a busy time without having to cook porridge in the morning". What is 'FORCE'? Presumably a brand name for something. An instant semolina-type food? Sounds more like a soap powder to me! Is there anybody out their, a very ancient mariner, that recalls Force? 1920s/1930s vintage. It might date from even earlier if it's from AR's childhood recollections. I was born in 1936 but have never heard of it. Donald Wall.
