No reason at all. Though I guess that when re-illustrating the pictures, just as when translating the text, something is always 'lost in translation'.
Ransome had very definitive views about how he wanted the illustrations to appear which presumably is why he eschewed the Clifford Webb pictures in favour of his own drawings.
