Didn't think I'd get away with "what happened later", but I didn't really want to get into womens lib per se. It was important to me that Nancy Blackett and Bridget Hunterly and the Charlotte person in Crowns were female. I think they conveyed a private sense of empowerment (sorry for all these buzz words) that wasn't present in my real life. So perhaps they paved the way, if only a little, for the huge change of attitude that happened after I was grown up.
Anyone out there got Crowns, by the way?
And by the way, STOP torturing the rest of us book collectors, you over there in the IOM!
