Sticking to Jim's general theme, I guess I know what he is getting at. I myself am posting a lot less these days (today being an exception), simply through anxiety that a remark may cause a totally unexpected flare-up. You have to be so careful nowadays. I sometimes use 'Test Post' over a dozen times before posting.

IIRC, it was not always so. I was on Tarboard in 1998 to 2000 and it was a much more resilient forum then. Check the archives! I can't see why, if you think someone is talking absolute b*****ks, you should not be free to say so. By contrast, the present atmosphere is so constraining that it's getting like a G.A. tea party. No wonder people aren't posting. Somebody has even suggested that any postings critical of Ransome should be removed!

A question: is it really possible, on Tarboard today, to disagree with anyone? I fear it is not, and this is depressing.
