Congratulations Ed - having a new AR enthusiast in the family will enliven your interest, I'm sure, plus give you an entirely new perspective. Best of luck in your new home - it sounds like a great move for you.
Lyn - even at that age you could start reading aloud or telling stories from the books in your own words. My own father did this for us from a very early age, in particular Kipling. To this day I can hear his voice telling his version of 'The Elephant's Child'.
The younger absorbs the meanings and feelings of the stories even at four months old, as my own son did when I and his dad told and read stories to his older sister when he was just a baby. I'm proud to say(and hope it was partly due to his early exposure to words and stories) he is graduating in Honours English from university this year.
