Further to your comments about WDMTGTS, I've noticed a number of aspects
in this book which bring a sense of the real (tough) outside world, not
so obvious in the other books. I don't have the book to hand to check,
but I think there's a mention of Wireless Tower(s) at Bawdsey(?) - this
in reality could have been one of the earliest "Chain Home" Radar
stations that were being set up in the middle 30s onwards round the
coast of the UK. Later there's the trauma of being almost run down by
the Flushing-Harwich ferry and then a mention of search light(s) in the
night sky later referred to by Commander Walker as "the big light at
Ostend".
