Hello All,
I've shared S&A with my mother (she's 65), and in turn she shared with me a series of books she really liked as a child in the 1940's.
The books she enjoyed were a series of three by Elisabeth Kyle. They were (perhaps not in the proper order)
Holly Hotel
Lost Karin
The Mirrors of Castle Doone
While not up to par with Ransome, they were enjoyable enough for those of us who appreciate juvenile literature. There were similarities -- the focus was on adventurous, imaginative kids, the countryside setting, the era. It was nice to experience a story that my mother enjoyed 50 years ago.
So my questions to you all : What other authors created stories like this that time has forgotten, but which we may enjoy search out and reading?
