I want to post a happy thought. I was thinking about Titty and Roger's adventure lost in the fog.

As a schoolboy I was an Army Cadet. I went on many Army courses and became a Sergeant teaching others all sorts of skills. Then I went up to Uni and joined the Territorial Army. Started at the bottom again. Then I became an Officer Cadet in the Services. Serious stuff. (Oh, yes, I passed out)

One day we did the thing about compasses. Yawn. Been there. Teach this stuff. So we did various exercises including the principle that you take a bearing on something - a tree, the corner of a building - w.h.y. and go there. Yup, yup, been there. Yawn.

THEN they said as evening closed down and it became dark - OK - take your team and march for X yards in the direction of Y. And we'll pick you up in a truck. Or not.

Aaargh! I made it - BUT - I don't think I've been arrogant about my field skills since.

'umble Joe
