Good hypothesis. Further evidence might be gleaned from the shanty "Leave her Johnny, leave her" mentioned, I think, at the end of SA.
Perhaps the colour of the label might have inspired the creation of Black Jake.
I suppose there is no evidence the AR was a potato crisp eater - although this might be an anachronism.
