I came to the actual books after enjoying a trip on the broads with my older sister and some friends - the trip itself inspired by the books. Because they were my sister's books, I shunned them (shame on me!), reading Henty etc and off on impossible (ludicrous?) jungle adventures. I soon put the matter right, and became a firm Ransome fan and never looked back.
