This week I am leading a discussion on Arthur Ransome as part of a series in the Reading Room, a discussion board of TheOneRing.net.

Although TheOneRing.net, known affectionately as TORn, began as a site to collect and discuss rumors about the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films, the Reading Room board has always been focused on serious discussions of Tolkien's works.

In the spring of 2005, I happened to be in the position to connect some of those who post often at that site with an editor who was compiling the J.R.R. Tolkien Encyclopedia, to be published by Routledge in the UK. This summer, those who researched and prepared entries for the Encyclopedia have been leading discussions on the different topics relating to Tolkien and his works.

I did not, as a matter of fact, write the Encyclopedia entry for "Arthur Ransome," but it was one I tried to volunteer for, so the discussion organizer suggested I participate anyway. I will be posting different information throughout the week, and the threads will probably remain on the board for longer.

All of that is just a long introduction to why I am posting an invitation for any or all of you to come and read the discussion, or even better, register with TheOneRing.net and join in. I would certainly welcome your company and your comments.
