I recently mentioned in another thread the likelihood that the masts seen by the crew of Goblin on their return from Holland ie " The tall wireless masts at Bawdsey were showing .." were part of the Chain Home radar system which was later expanded to surround the whole UK. Viewers to a recent UK TV programme might have seen some of the Bawdsey pioneere talking about their work. Since Bawdsey radar work didn't start until about 1936, the towers would have been very new when AR saw them while researching for WDMTGTS in about 1937. Although installations all round the UK were eventually set up with similar masts - about 350 feet high - there is now only one of these masts left standing. It is located at the Marconi Research establishment at Great Baddow in Essex and can be seen easily by anyone being driven along the A12 in the vicinity of Chelmsford. (Drivers please keep eyes on the road!)
