It does have a lot to do with Mr. Ransome's stories -- wasn't George Owdon essentially a bully, trying to lay the blame on someone else? - putting down the Death and Glories and making them the fall guys.

When I was reading the Stories for the first time, I was very excited about them. At that time (and I presume now, also) it was not what the other kids were "into", so, I kept all my adventures, reading and otherwise to myself as when I was excited about a new book or movie or whatever, most of the people I knew totally trashed my enthusism. My response was that I lived a very enjoyable private life, sharing only with my three best friends: I, Myself and Me. The children in the Stories and other books became my special friends. I was also at that time being physically bullied by a couple of guys until I hauled off and plowed one in the stomach which ended that - they found another easy mark.

Yes, there is a vast difference between "dissagreement" with civilized discussion and the nasty put down - "what you think is not worth anything or less and you are trash for even thinking of that". One of the joys of TARBOARD is the give and take (for the most time) between almost everyone.

Most "Great Ideas" have never been POPULAR at first - and if they were, then they were probably not so great. At this point in Life, what does it matter in Great Scheme of Things - if I am given pleasure and it hurts no-one, let's go for it - that's why I live in a Garage! There are things YOU like which I don't and vice versa and we all need to be tolerent of this!
