I think you are right about 18 as the age of conscription but can't remember about the rules for University - I was only 8 in 1940! I'll ask my Cambridge college. Their memory / elephant. Goes back before Henry V!! Built before Kings College. You know - Carols from Kings. That one. (Small prize for whoever knows which College is next to Kings and is 'back-to-front' because the old road passed by what became the back of the College sfter Kings was built and the road was moved. And had Hobson's stables next door from which comes the term 'Hobson's choice'Oh, and which other College is across the old street and has a lovely bridge over the Cam?)
