My father-in-law was born a farmers son in 1921 and lived on a farm near Thackthwaite by Little Mell Fell, just north of Ullswater. He says he tickled for trout and wore clogs. Think he'd be amused to know that people thought he lived near "industrialised regions".
Family history time... the lord of the manor ordered him to remove his clogs whilst delivering milk to the manor house as he made too much noise, when my F-I-L's father complained about this he was sacked from his job as farm manager and the family thrown out of their "tied" cottage.
