Yes, I had carried the image of small delicate ships in mind from SW, and when I went to work in Bombay in 1964, was startled to find how big they were. Also disappointed that the Indians only called them 'country boats'.
They were still going strong in Dubai when I went there in 1997.
As for feluccas, they were everywhere on the Nile in 1995 when I was cruising in something resembling the Pterodactyl, and about then my son was leading tourist groups on the river sailing in them. He found himself a wife among the passengers, so has given up, but the firm he worked for is still running the tours.
