Hi Pam - Deeply interested in your thoughts having become a Mentor for students in the Year in Industry scheme and having to cope with school leavers faced with the problems of work and, for many, living away from home for the first time. The boys always thought freshly laundered / ironed shirts appear on a hangar in the bedroom every week and going clubbing in Bournemouth every night is OK!

I've also been asked to be a kind of Mentor to a couple of schools. But my professional training career has been spent with adults so I'm quite unsure what to expect. My first effort with the PPoint and evryfink was voted 'cool' so that's OK. (It's also why I got asked to do the job).

Your comments about parents exemplify why I am asked to help. I have to help prepare these students for the outside world, whether uni or work and train them in the social / communication / personal skills they will need. I don't know what that does to you but it scares the xxxx out of me!! Still. Let's stay in touch and please mail me off list if you wish. Cheers - Joe
