And the reason I did not make Ted a Dartmouth grad was (in the real world) the last cruiser sent to the Australia Station left England before the first Dartmouth midshipmen emerged, and I couldn't see any other way to get Ted and Mary together.
I know the alternative of Mary finishing her education in England has been suggested, but it still seems a stretch that she would meet a juinor naval officer in England. Whereas: young Australian debutante, Sydney society, dashing RN officer - it writes itself.
