Many girls from Australian sheep stations - especially those whose parents were UK born, went 'back home' to finish their education and snare a husband. She would have moved in the circles that met young RN officers otherwise it would have been unlikely they either would have been given permission to marry, or that he would have had any rank in the Navy at that time.
