It's the next town along from Walton on the Naze which is the town in Secret Water (Frinton is actually between Clacton and Walton as the coast runs northish!). In its hey day in the 1930s it was a very posh resort and attracted a number of famous visitors, though because it was something of a hideaway for these people there is little documentary evidence of who actually stayed but they range from Edward (Prince of Wales) and Mrs Simpson to Charlie Chaplin.
What is well documented is the plan to build a modern estate in the '30s by Oliver Hill the Art Deco architect. As usual he ran out of funds so only some of the houses were built and a hall - this is currently under the threat of demolition but people are more interested in preserving the gates!
Frinton's only other claims to fame are the fact that it only got its first pub (bar) the last 10 years, has only one fish and chip shop (after much planning wrangles).
