Of the 12 books, both Swallows and Amazons appear in 75% of the books, but not the same 75%. The D's appear in 50% of the books.
I think the D's form a vital link between the Lake series and the Broads books. Their education forms a major part of CC and they are key players in BS. Again in PP and PM they have a structural role and Dick is a key in the GN story-line.
They are introduced well in WH and I don't think they have been neglected.
Some have guessed that they live in London, but I have not been able to locate any ice rink near the University in the 1930's. We do need to carry out some research to improve the quality of our guesses.
