That is a very interesting post by Joe. I can see now why he (and I have never doubted that there are many others) cannot bear the thought that there can be no more S&A stories. It brings to mind the last words of PM - 'five whole weeks of the holidays still to go'. I suppose most of us long to know what happened in those five weeks. Perhaps someone will one day have a go at telling us, but it will have to be someone who is as competent a story-teller as AR, and who understands AR's approach at a very deep level.

I am not so sure about following the S&A & D's into adulthood. If a story was written about that, surely it would appeal to adult AR devotees but maybe not as much to children? Also, it wouldn't really be a sequel, but rather a whole new novel, unless you started with the children entering adolescence and took it on from there, to preserve continuity. Could be done, I suppose.

Finally, Joe pleads So please . . . join us in seeking a way of carrying forward a wonderful dynamic, living world No - those of us who don't believe in sequels are entitled to opt out, surely? At the same time we can wish good luck to anyone who decides to have a go.
