I caught that line by Jim McDowell and was surprised by it--I have always greatly enjoyed Great Northern as a finale to the series. It seems quite reasonable to me--Captain Flint at his best is certainly capable of cooking up a proper yachting trip, Scottish waters are comparatively close to home, and the children are all older & more experienced than ever. I also love the story line--red herrings, decoys, Dick's spectacles, etc.--all a lot of fun to read & imagine. As in all the books, I find myself "being" Susan, and I am delighted with the description of the galley, with all its handy bits & pieces. Reminds me of how I felt when I read in Laura Ingalls Wilder's "The First Four Years" her description of the wonderful pantry Almanzo built for her in their firsy home together. I guess I am cook at heart--I love the idea of dipping into bins and tins to create delicious cakes!
