"For me no SA sequel will ever have the AR 'magic'"

I agree entirely... but again, I wouldn't mind reading one as a work in its own right, as opposed to trying to recreate AR's magic.

For me the children of the books represent a much loved retreat from everyday life, and while I would have loved to have known them when I was a similar age, and would love to know them now, I would want them to be no older than they were at the end of Great Northern? because if they were to grow up and become adults they would lose much of the innocence that makes the books so pleasurable to read. As adults they would have shorter holidays, for one thing, and they wouldn't be able to play on the lake - and I would hate to see someone try to construct a romance between any of them, it wouldn't fit with my imagination.

Just my thoughts on it, but as I say I would read a sequel with an open mind, but not remotely expect it to have AR's spark.
