Reading about food has reminded me of something the S/A/D's would have done like a shot if they could have at that time. We called it Ship's Stew. Quick, simple, warming in poor weather and not much washing up. Any leftovers will last until heated up again tomorrow. After that - seagull food or food poisoning!!

Adjust quantities to numbers present. Tin of Baked Beans. Put in pan and fry to required thickmess of sauce. (few people know that baked beans should be fried to thicken sauce, not heated in saucepan and left all sloppy) Put in pot. Add drained tin of potatoes. Add tin of steak chunks in gravy. Heat through. Serve in bowls with spoon. To die for! Especially when tired, wet and cold.

PS - Aso known as Caravan Stew.

If you take groups of young people to camp, as in the Scouts or Guides, (or camp yourself) you can do a similar thing with a dixie on the fire but pre-trimming / searing meat, pre-peeling pot's and adding fried B-beans or other pulses such as butter beans. Add gravy made from frying meat scraps, adding flour and a little water, seasoning to taste. Cook through. Or gravy-mix. Simple. Filling. Magic!! Joe
