Peter Duck was the first Ransome book I ever read and I minded not a bit that it had all sorts of exotic surroundings. I then went on to read the others but I am grateful for Peter Duck in being good enough to get me to read the others. Nowadays, I think Swallowdale is my favourite, but I have a soft spot for Peter Duck and I really enjoy the first few chapters of the voyage down Channel.
