But in that era, go-ahead shoeshops had X-ray machines to check the fit of children's shoes on their feet. I was quite disappointed when they stopped the practice.
I certainly didn't become aware of the danger of X-rays until about 1950, when a radiologist friend of my parents died as a result of his work.
